Welcome to Kindness Counseling

My name is Hannah Powell, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Austin, Texas. However, I also hold licenses in California and Oregon. I am inspired by the strength and resiliency of women and have crafted my practice to support women on their journey of healing from trauma, anxiety, grief, and depression. My approach to therapy is warm and supportive with a touch of humor. While there is an inherent heaviness that comes with processing the burdens you’re carrying, laughter is an important part of the healing process. As women, we can often have a double standard of offering kindness to everyone but ourselves. My hope is to provide you with the support you need so that you can learn how to extend that kindness to yourself and give yourself permission to embrace the present, heal from the past, and have hope for the future.

I specialize in working with women healing from anxiety, trauma, grief, and depression. I am passionate about these specific areas of mental health, as I have experienced them personally over the course of my own journey and know firsthand what it feels like to lose your authentic self to the burdens our system carries. I also know what it feels like to experience relief from these symptoms, and I deeply care about helping you find freedom from these burdens, as well.

In addition to my own relationship with these areas of mental health, I have over 7 years of experience providing individual therapy. As a certified EMDR therapist, I have advanced training in trauma to treat trauma, anxiety, grief, and depression. I also utilize other approaches, such as Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory, Mindfulness, Neuroscience, and Attachment Theory to help create understanding in your own system. Together, we can use these tools to explore how your past is influencing your present and establish healthier relationships with yourself, others, and the world around you. I am happy to provide more information about what these approaches look like and how they might be helpful to you.

When I’m not nerding out on EMDR, IFS, and Polyvagal Theory, I enjoy snuggling my two kitties, reading, hiking, cooking for loved ones, pottery, yoga and spin class, sewing, and traveling with my husband.
